CCEWOOL Views: How to choose refractories in melting furnace
Generally speaking, the C/S of furnace slag is between 0. And 1.0, but to improve the melting furnace efficiency, we usually modify the composition of melting substance(add the CaO and SiO2), which will lead to the change of alkalinity, therefore, we need to justify the refractories.

Corrosion resistance is not the only factor when choosing melting furnace used refractories. The change of operation environment and furnace slag, the tem floating as well, will also influence the service life of refractories. Therefore, we only choose refractories according to factors which cause damage to refractories. The main standard of choosing refractories used in melting furnace is as below:
1. When the alkalinity is more than 1.0 or the Fe content is high, we should choose Alkalinity refractories(MgO, Spinel) and carbon material; while the C/S is less than 1.0, we choose Al2O3,Cr2O3 and SiC refractories.
2. According to the operation terms(tem, atmosphere), the factors need to be considered are as below:
1). When the tem is above 1450C-1500C, the erosion degree will be largely raised, while we need consider refractories according to operation position and furnace structure;
2). The atmosphere and furnace slag also cause damage.
